It is perhaps the most comprehensive manual created for any computer games ever. A Massively article and a long interview with the author: http://www.massively.com/2010/08/29/eve-evolved-the-industrial-sized-knowledgebase
More than 400 pages of pure quality information and some nice graphics. A must have for any EVE pilots. And the best thing, it's FREE.

I downloaded it, thumbed through it and it seems like a great guide for newbies, but it didn't really give me any pointers.
I'm going to print out a couple chapters though, I hate reading stuff like that on the computer. |

Are you sure you looked at it? Its less a money making guide and much more a general game manual. //insert sig here |

lol the name is not indicative of what it is. ISK stands for something. It's not a 400 page money-making guide. It's a general game guide. |

Originally posted by cosy It is a game guide. Gameplay consists of several things, just like mining, manufacturing. It never stated anything about profit. I have to break your dream, but the most profitable legal way to earn ISK is to earn a lot of money IRL, and buy ISK through the PLEX system. |

I'm trying to figure out how anybody is arguing against what cosy originally said. They way I made ISK when there were 10k max logged in was not the same way I made ISK when that hit 20k, 30k, 40k, or more. The more people doing the same thing over the long run drives down the profit - the supply far outreached the demand on many activities, to the point that it has reached the point it has. It is funny too, because each time the market begins to sort itself out - CCP adds in a new "feature" to set everything off balance again. You can follow the patterns. But that aside...aside, not sure how anybody can disagree with what cosy originally said...perhaps because the truth hurts? I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again? Originally posted by kurtbarlow Everybody that plays EVE knows what ISK is. Did you notice that I.S.K. appears on the cover and in the prologue before referencing a place you can go to buy GTCs to change into PLEX for ISK? Each chapter starts with the book being called Industrial Black Book - not Industrial-Sized Knowledgebase. Besides, were that the true name - it would be ISKB, given that KB is the common abbreviation for knowledge base...seeing that knowledgebase is actually knowledge base - two words. Much of the information in the book is copyrighted information from CCP themselves with some subjective commentary from the "contributors". It is dismal bait and switch, likely to turn off more people from the game than to attract them - EVE is already overwhelming enough for the average MMORPGer without throwing a 400+ page manual at them. Much of the information is easily found from simply doing the tutorials or trying to do something. The goal of the book is to get people to build up their characters with some friends and head out ot 0.0 to die...it is an ISK making endeavor, for those that contributed to this travesty. I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again? Explorer: 87%, Killer: 67%, Achiever: 27%, Socializer: 20% |

Originally posted by VirusDancer Everybody that plays EVE knows what ISK is. Of course we all know. That is why it is fun to use those initials in the title of the book. I think you are reding too much into it. Much of the information in the book is copyrighted information from CCP themselves with some subjective commentary from the "contributors". Of course it is CCP's info. This is a handy compilation of stats and facts about the game, CCP's game, CCP's copyrigthed property. The author have compiled a lot of disperse info into a one document for the new players benefit. Is there anything wrong with it? It has been done before, we have hundreds of pages with compiled info, this is one more, aimed to new players. Much of the information is easily found from simply doing the tutorials or trying to do something. Of course, as a compilation, all the info is out there somewhere. But some new players are frustrated when the "easily found" info is not evident for them. It takes some time to know where to look in game for the info. So this compilation is meant as a help for those first weeks of game. The goal of the book is to get people to build up their characters with some friends and head out ot 0.0 to die... Nope, mate, the goal of this book is to present you with a compilation of info that can be printed. What you do with it is up to you. it is an ISK making endeavor, for those that contributed to this travesty. If someone finds this helpful they might donate some isk or hard cash, true, but you get to read and print and study the whole thing first and decide whether it is worth some isk donation or not. The authors have taken quite some time to create this new players guide, it has taken lot of hours of work, and the end product is a nicely presented compilation of tables about a game that has a ton of info build into it.. Now what is your problem with that? It is easy to dismiss the work of others isnt ít? To think that just because something is of no use to you it must be crap for everyone else. It must be a pain to go through life with that grumpy attitude. |
