Stuttering, fumbling, frustratingly slow -- no, I'm not describing my grandpa, I'm describing this game. Arguably one of the biggest shining stars of this year's MMORPG releases turns out to be nothing more than a steaming pile of dog doodoo. The controls are not as streamlined and as easy as it should be. You will find yourself frustrated with just the basics of movement and UI navigation before you even care much about the game's story at all. The graphics may be nice, but it doesn't overshadow the dejected speed at which this game runs. I'm glad that I got a chance to try this beta. Now I know not to waste my time, money and patience buying this game at retail. Will this game launch like AoC? No, it will be much worse. |

Originally posted by Leonidus0 I really like the game. Plays a lot like FFXI did with a controller. I like using a controller. It's already very stable and I haven't run into any bugs yet. Wanna put some money on this game launching like AoC? I'm always up for a little easy money. |

They still have a ways to go. I just hope they don't stop optimizing it, just cuz it's getting close to launch. I have a pretty good system, but I was forced to crank down the settings when I hit some high-pop areas, and I'd start getting 1-2 second delays in input, and up to 5-10 second delays while in combat. That's dangerous. So yeah. Other than the performance issue, another thing I found bugging me is mobs that keep resetting if you stand in the "wrong" spot. Happened twice already to me resulting in death both times, cuz the mobs kept regenerating hp super fast, while still being able to hit me. They should definitely look into both issues. |

It's kind of annoying how anyone that voices any criticism whatsoever is immediatly jumped on. It's like people who try the game and notice bug's or game play issues are out to destroy the game. I think most people who went through all that crap to get an OB key probably wanted to try a game they hoped would be good. I think most people following this game wanted it to succeed. It's not like people who see something bad only tried the game to trash talk it. Instead of people throwing crap at people who don't like the game, maybe they should try to understand why people are saying that. Don't think all criticism is a bad thing people. This game is being released in three weeks, this will be what is essentially in the box. Open beta is a stress test and a time where they tweak a few minor things. If massive amounts of people are having severe issues, then chances are those massive amounts of people aren't the issue.
Now, granted some people on here are just flaming the game, which probably isn't helping anything. But, the people who are flaming everyone who say's anything negative about the game are much much worse. Let's all remember that people want good games to succeed. We want more choices and higher quality games. No one want's crappy games to be released just for the sake of having more crappy games out there. So to all the people who act like someone kicked their grandma just because a bunch of people have a negative critique, let's relax a little bit. They aren't attacking you, they aren't secretly planning the demise of FF or SE, they just are frustrated with games being released to early in order to steal business from other companies. They are frustrated with companies and game designers releasing stuff that isn't properly done.
No one can deny the graphics in this game are wonderful, but they coding should also match. I think just by the sheer amount of negative comments we can all admit there is a problem somewhere, and it would be nice for the designers to at least address those concerns, instead of just releasing comments that they intended it to be like that. It would be nice if they didn't act like the western markets where an after thought and threw us a bone. |

If you really want to be heared, do it through the official channels. The fans really don't want to hear people criticising the game they like. |

Eh, it's one thing to have an opinion and to post it. That's what open discussions are all about. This is about the same haters posting the same thing over and over again. I get it, the game didn't work for you. I got all that in his last three posts. Constantly posting the same negativities degrades your ethos, your credibility. Just a suggestion, but maybe move on and stop wasting your time on something you clearly dislike. I will say one good thing about your posts though: some of the things you dislike are the things Iook forward to most. |

I'm on my 2nd day ingame. I never ever seen this kind of lag, about 5 seconds average. I have a nice gaming system, and it's still slow as hell, even on medium settings. And the mouse lag.. that's the most annoying thing ever. Aw.. and didn't Square Enix heard about the new wave? The NON BUTTON TARGETTING? They may have heard, but with this kind of performance, it wouldn't be possible, ofcourse. |

I think it's fair to post reviews or negative/positive criticisms on any game. It's not just for the fans but for the potential fans too, no one wants to waste their money on a box sale and subs that they'll get one or two months gameplay out of /coughAion. |

Also the reason its laggy possibly over 3 million people trying to log in at one time and as for framerate problems just cuz you can run wow on medium doesnt mean you can run this. your comp prob just sucks. Sorry square doesnt put in a i win button. if you want good framerates without dishing out the cash for a good comp wait till march for the ps3. |

^ The poster above is exactly what I'm talking about. Why is it okay to have a crappy UI just because it's different from WoW? Get real. The UI could be much better there is no denying that. I'm fine with the UI, I can grasp it just fine, and I still don't like it. Anyway... That's weird that people are complaining about lag.. I don't notice any.. there are times when casting is slow if that's what you mean... but that's hardly the frustrating lag that I've seen in games where you can hardly move because of lag. I'm not defending lag by any means I'm just saying I haven't noticed any (unless you're talking about the delay when some spells go off.) Anyway I think it's far not to like this game... i'm starting to like the more I play it but I really had to force myself to love it for the first couple of hours. And I don't expect anyone to force themselves to play a game that they are not enjoying. The UI, while not a problem, is not as good as it could be but that's probably my biggest complaint. I like the combat, and the guildleves are interesting enough. This game is different enough from the typical MMOs that we have all become immune to and thus it will hold my attention for a much longer period of time. ^^ |

Originally posted by tswthoradin It's a fanboi defense mechanism. As far as the game goes, it has potential and graphics are very nice but it is no where ready for release. It needs a good 6 more months of serious development. SE needs to take a step back and realize that right now the game is a subpar PS3 port. More often than not, you're fighting with the UI more than you're fighting with the mobs, which have pretty much been hunted to extinction by the hordes of players. Apparently grinding is really the only way to get anywhere in this game... But that's besides the point. The game is obviously designed for a PS3 because it's absolutely unwieldy with a mouse and keyboard. No hardware mouse, no keyboard short cuts like "I" for inventory, "C" for character, etc. Pressing ESC does not bring up the menu. You have to press "Enter" to interact with things, which is annoying since you have to move your hand from the movement keys. There are no tool tips and the inventory/equipment screen is abismal. Anyway, I like the art and the stories and it's unfortunate that SE had decided to release this game on the PC without making it work with the PC control scheme.

The fanbois will always react harshly, but I have to agree with the above poster. I too am glad I got to help test the game in open beta. Now I know I have to steer clear of this one ... even though I have nothing to play atm ..... IMHO its just that bad. The fans will prob. like it, I guess I am just one of the ppl that cant see past all the problems.
Good luck to those who decide to play. |

EDIT: Just thought I would add... I'm not picking up this game at launch either, going to wait awhile. |

3 year old mediocre system and your running it on max? With Depth of Field on, Ambient Occlusion on, 1920x1080 Resolution, shadow detail highest, Multisampling 16xQ CSAA, resolution buffer size, high texture quality and highest texture filtering? If you are running it on max then you might want to send your specs to S-E so they can tell everyone what system to build because the newest ones can't even run with everything at max. Of course I don't believe you are running it at max at all and are just trolling. |

Basically, because you ARE lying. Even if you had the best of the best 3 years ago, that's still not enough to run full bore.

I played it on a 3.2K machine i bought 2 weeks ago ... still runs like a snail in tar.
Get rid of the software mouse and build a PC game with PC controls and we are all happy. |
